Dear Seacoast United Maine Graduating Seniors,

Seacoast United established the Jarkko Tuominen College Scholarship in 2006, primarily centered around the golf tournament in his memory in August.  Jarkko was an employee of Nike Soccer and supported Seacoast United in his role with sales and sports marketing.  He was one of our biggest fans and those that knew him, and many of our players did, will never forget his smile or the way he treated people.  He died tragically after suffering a fall not long after his return to Oregon in 2005.

While an endowed scholarship takes time to grow, the Club is making the effort to award this year’s graduating class rather than wait for years to come.  With the economy the way it is, we are going to try to help as many of our players heading to college this fall so you too can benefit from having played for the Club, receive support as you embark on your college endeavors and to appreciate what Jarkko meant to the Seacoast United organization.

In addition to the essay, please provide the following:

• Name & address
• Team
• How many years you have played at Seacoast United Maine (including Coastal SC)
• The college/university you will be attending in the fall of 2009

Additional information:

Awards will be between $200 & $400 each and will apply to your freshman year in college.

Application deadline is Wednesday July 22, 2009.  You can mail, fax, or email the completed application to the attention of Paul Willis.

All recipients will be invited to be a part of the Jarkko Tuominen Field Dedication on Sunday, August 2nd in Epping, NH where they will be recognized, receive a Seacoast United/Nike gift and a college scholarship.  For those parents who might be interested, Jarkko’s Golf Tournament is on Monday, August 3rd at Abenaqui Country Club in Rye, NH.  More details to follow upon receipt of application.
